Today, you can visit the aqueduct and admire the incredible craftsmanship of the people who built it almost 2,000 years ago.

The Pont Du Gard is open all year to visitors. Purchase your tickets at the visitor’s center and then it’s just a quick walk down to the river and aqueduct from there.

Once you arrive at the aqueduct, you can hike up the hill and enjoy the amazing views. Additionally, you can head down to the Gardon river for a swim or picnic under the bridge.

From ancient Roman ruins to the places that inspired many of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings, Arles is one of the most wonderful day trips from Avignon to get lost in art and ancient history.

You can buy these passes at the tourist office in Arles when you arrive. We recommend buying the Pass Liberté for your day trip – we’ve done this and it covered all of the sights for the day.

Additionally, Vincent Van Gogh lived in Arles for 14 months. He painted over 300 works of art during his time in Arles, including the famous paintings “Le Cafe La Nuit” and “Starry Night Over the Rhone.”

We recommend the self-guided Van Gogh walking tour. You can download the walking tour guide here.

The Calanques are a series of stunning limestone cliffs and inlets that stretch along the coast from Marseille to Cassis. You can hike the Calanques and visit Cassis both in a day.
